North Africa and Middle East

There is a prevalence rate of 12 HIV infections per 10,000 adults

The main mode for transmission is heterosexual intercourse, although in some regions, sharing needles for drug use is partly responsible.

Women account for approximately 17% of new HIV infections through mid-1996.
