Minorities in the United States
In
1995 racial/ethnic minorities accounted for over 55% of adolescent / adult
AIDS cases among males, overy 77% among adolescent / adult females and
over 84% among children.
Aids
rates are highest among blacks and Hispanics. AIDS incidence rater per
100,000 among blacks, (92.6) was 6 times greater than among whites, (15.4)
and 2 times greater than among Hispanics, (46.2).
The
most common modes of exposure among minority men are men having sex with
men, (36%), and injecting-drug use, (almost 34%). Among minority women,
the most prevalent modes are injecting drug use, (37%), and heterosexual
contact, (almost 38%).
